All Bets are Off – Harry and Meghan are Engaged!
Bookmakers pulled all Royal wedding bets re Harry and Meghan Royal Wedding predictions late last week as a clear sign that an engagement announcement was imminent.
Gambling companies closed all betting on Harry and Meghan late last week as it became clear that the rumor mill of ‘When Harry met Meghan’ went up into engagement super-drive frenzy. It was a case of be the last to place a bet and the first to know the worst kept secret ever. Lots of bookies were openly saying that in all likelihood the couple had secretly been engaged for a while.
The odds were 4/6 for the couple saying “I do” in 2018 before betting was closed.
Then the couple, together with Kensington Palace, made the dramatic announcement and the world made a collective aww.
Prince Harry, the second son to Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, fifth in line to the British throne is officially engaged to US Suits star, Meghan Markel.
A self-proclaimed activist and feminist, who was invited to be a UN advocate for women's political participation, the comparisons with Princess Diana will inevitably come thick and fast
The couple said they were “set up” by a mutual friend in their first meeting in July 2016, with Harry noting he had not heard of Markle or seen her cable television drama “Suits” at the time.
They officially outed as a couple a little under a year ago and were seen frequently together at semi-official dates and quite openly loved up at the Invictus Games.
Their first interview as an engaged couple took off the pressure on those wondering when and how he proposed. We also got the details of how he designed the ring with a gorgeous setting of a Botswana diamond and featuring two diamonds owned by his late mother, Princess Diana. This was Harry’s way of making sure his mother was part of his important moment.
We also learnt that the knot will be tied in May 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
This doesn’t mean that there aren’t things to bet on about Harry and Meghan’s relationship. Those that love a royal punt can plan ahead with odds available on everything from when Meghan will fall pregnant to who will be Harry’s Best Man. After all, a Royal wedding isn’t just an opportunity to turn a profit for makers of commemorative mugs and souvenirs!
Fancy the odds on “Will it rain on the wedding day”? Or “Where will Harry go on his stag do”?
The latest odds are if the uninvited and questionable part of her family will gatecrash the wedding. That could be a money-spinner!
Baby making is, of course, at the core of any Royal family and while Harry and any offspring have fallen down the pecking order in terms of succession, he is a son of the heir to the throne and will be expected to contribute to the Windsor dynasty.
You’ll find odds at 4/5 that the first baby of Harry and Meghan will be a boy and 10/11 it will be a girl.
No pressure …
